Philosophy and Religious Studies Club
Philosophy and Religious Studies Club is a student run initiative. Students decide what the club does, and how it runs. Join us!
The Philosophy and Religious Studies Club is open to any student, major or not, with no dues and no prerequisites. Think trivia nights, movie and pizza nights, game nights and open discussions: a laid-back way to keep thinking, and have fun, outside of class.
Advised by Patrick Ryan and Martha Smith, and open to any student at Fullerton College.
The club also co-hosts more formal events like debates and talks from invited speakers. Whatever students want to do, propose it to the club leadership and we will make it happen.

A public philosophy forum held twice a year, bringing together people working in the pragmatist tradition and open to anyone interested.

Visit thinkdissensus.org ↗An ongoing reading group on underrepresented philosophical traditions, working toward introductory courses that better represent philosophy as a global discipline. Open to students and the public.

Study abroad
Study abroad isn't run out of our department, but it comes to you: our faculty regularly invite Fullerton College's Study Abroad office into philosophy and religious studies classrooms to walk through current programs, destinations and deadlines.

Turning coursework, papers and class discussion into language a hiring manager recognizes, with real before-and-after examples of resume lines.
Choosing your courses
Held early in the year, before you build your schedule, so your path through the major lines up with where you're headed, whether that's transfer, law school or a job right after.

Ways to work one-on-one with a faculty member, beyond a normal course.

Philosophy and religious studies are both strong majors for pre-law students. The department is actively working to build out more direct pre-law programming.

The department doesn't yet maintain its own internship listings. Fullerton College's Career Center can help you find opportunities that fit a philosophy or religious studies background.
Visit the Career Center ↗Worth knowing: one faculty member is currently pursuing a sabbatical proposal to build immersive digital experiences (including virtual tours of religious sites) for students who can't travel to visit them in person. It's still in the proposal stage, but it's representative of the kind of applied research happening in the department.
