Essential Functions 

  • Teach lower division courses in Comparative Ethnic Studies & one of the following areas: Africana Studies; Asian Pacific Islander American Studies; or Ethnic Studies Teacher Education.
  • May include day, evening, Saturday, face-to-face, online, hybrid, honors, and/or dual enrollment.
  • Instruct and assist in the retention and success of a diverse student population through careful preparation of course materials, sound teaching methodologies, and critical pedagogies that are particularly effective with students of color and first-generation college students.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s in the ethnic studies field OR 
  • A master’s in American Studies/Ethnicity, Latino Studies, La Raza Studies, Central American Studies, Latin American Studies, Cross Cultural Studies, Race and Ethnic Relations, Asian-American Studies, or African-American Studies OR
  • Master’s in the interdisciplinary area OR
  • Master’s in one of the disciplines included in the interdisciplinary area and upper division or graduate course work in at least one other constituent discipline OR 
  • the equivalent (determined locally).

Desirable Qualifications

  • Recent experience effectively teaching Ethnic Studies courses in higher education.
  • Specialization in one or more of the following: Africana Studies, or Asian Pacific Islander American Studies, or Ethnic Studies Teacher Education Preparation (TEP). If you have experience with one or more areas, please indicate so in your application materials.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the discipline of Ethnic Studies through involvement in academic, professional, and/or community organizations and activities.
  • Willingness to examine and remediate one’s teaching and mentorship practices to more effectively engage and support racially marginalized and other disproportionately impacted students.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience using a variety of effective classroom technologies, including previous training and/or certification in online instruction.
  • Experience with creative course design, instruction, and evaluation, including service learning and/or project-based learning.
  • Knowledge and application of the major epistemological considerations informing the discipline, including disciplinary histories, contributing theories and methods, major departures and paradigm shifts, and pedagogical approaches.
