Collective Student Statement
Ethnic Studies opens students’ eyes, minds, and hearts by teaching critical thinking skills, promoting respect, and supporting students inside and outside of the classroom. Ethnic Studies teaches students to look at scholarship beyond academia putting our communities’ ‘precious knowledge’ at the center of the conversation. Students become aware of their own and others’ identities and intersectional realities, we learn to challenge the status quo and find courage in our voice. Ethnic Studies students are com(passionate), inclusive, empathetic, resilient, persevering, and open to learning and unlearning in our thinking and in our actions. We cultivate self-worth to better serve others and we take accountability as an act of self-love and community love.
